Artist Review
I think that Bob Toensing's Bureau of Land Management piece is amazing. When I first saw it I thought it looked like a gumball machine but with mountains in it. I think the title refers to our need to keep the environment cleaner. The piece is designed beautifully because it's amusing but it also makes you think about more. I would use photos and dramatic lighting to help promote this artists' work. The title doesn't make much sense to me so I wouldn't use that to promote the piece.

My Business Card
I don't like labels so I decided to do a card that expressed my personality instead. I used my actual cowgirl hat for the card.

Foshay Tower
The reason I did this color scheme is because I really liked Lisa Frank when I was younger. Also living in Minnesota with a really long winter, I needed some bright colors around me.

15 artists
1. Bonnie Waletzko – My Great Aunt, she helped me discover my own style of art by letting me explore her pottery pieces and just the colors of her work are inspiring.
2. Henri Matisse – the flowing colors and movement of his work help me keep my own work fluid.
3. Pablo Picasso – The dual view of the face in some of his work reminds me that I’m not limited by the laws of physics when it come to my own work.
4. Monet – The quickness of his brush strokes to capture the light has always captivated me.
5. Van Gogh – I have always liked his work even in first grade when we painted our own Starry Night pictures.
6. Alexa Horochowski – I came across her work while searching for artists for this assignment and her work immediately caught my attention, the way her work looks like a childhood memory but also a fantasy at the same time.
7. Bonnie Rannald – Her photographs of nature instilled a peaceful calm in me just as I was browsing her work online.
8. Megan Rye – I really liked her art based off her brother’s pictures from Iraq because it reminded me that my Aunt has seen some of the same things during her tours around the world.
9. Lillian Colton – The detail of her paintings using seeds for texture amazed me.
10. Bill Klaila – I liked how his installment titled Grotto was an interactive piece that changed with the viewer and placed them in an alternative world of view.

Artist's Statement - Bonnie Rannald
Science and art have always been my two favorite subjects and photography became the medium through which my fervor for each could be expressed. At an early age I was intrigued by nature and with my first camera, a Kodak Instamatic, I would explore the outdoors around Augusta, Georgia, where I grew up. Upon discovering the Southwestern Desert, a passion grew to record on film the wonders and beauty that I found. Each day during my travels throughout the Southwestern United States, I am taken on a sensory rich drama that begins with the opening curtain of the sun's first light, to the finale of nightfall. With my Nikon and tripod, my goal is to recreate the scene as it appears in nature, to preserve in a photographic image the awesome, yet simplistic beauty of the scene that waits around a bend or over a hill. Sometimes it is a colorful landscape, and many times I am allowed in the presence of the numerous creatures that adapt to life in the desert.

Original Movie Poster revised
Last week I was told to create an identity font for the poster. To do this I changed the font to a felt marker tip in illustrator then I turned the title into shapes, after that I pulled a few points around to keep the arrows on upside-down. Once I was done with that I added in the little hair/antennae piece from the main character to some key letters or places in the title. I also fixed the feet on one of the background characters.

Original Movie Poster
I did this movie poster about one of my uncle's first short films. This movie poster was designed using my uncle's own animations from the movie. I scanned in the movie cover he designed so I could use Illustrator to draw the characters. Then I dropped the characters into Photoshop.

Inspirational Quote
I know this quote is from a hockey player but I first applied it to basketball when my brother was playing community sports. I chose this because I feel that it can be applied to many aspects of life.

Movie Poster: success or failure?
I liked this movie poster for The Fugitive because it made me wonder why he was running and what he was running from. The blurring of the background makes it seem like he's running out of time or that he's trying to get somewhere. The bold white lettering on a black background reminds me of news headlines. The four little phrases at the top really caught my attention. This movie is really pictured well in the poster because it's an action/drama film. In general the poster just catches my attention.
I didn't like this poster because the pink lettering on blue was really hard to see when the font was distorted. I felt like the little cartoon took away or distracted from the movie title. The poster doesn't even tell when the movie is coming out.

This is me
I chose this picture because I feel that it shows me as more than just an art student. This picture describes how close I am with my family and the outdoors. My family tries to go camping every summer and our favorite area to camp in northern Minnesota, specifically the state parks. I'm interested in the natural perspective of graphic design and the visual arts because it appeals to me as an individual. Obviously that is not my only interest, I like reading and signing as well as learning to play my guitar. My favorite color is either lavender or a deep royal purple. I like Tinkerbell and dolphins. My favorite genre of music is hands down Country Music, in fact my current favorite song is “She’s Country” by Jason Aldean. If given the choice between a t-shirt, blue jeans, and a hoodie or a dress, I would pick the t-shirt, blue jeans, and hoodie most of the time. I grew up in a FORD household so someday I would like to own a blue F-150 and a dark candy apple red Mustang GT. My dad and uncle are both mechanics and my brother is going to tech school to become one so I’m probably more comfortable in a garage than at the mall although I do like to shop a lot, just ask my mom.
